Do You Forgive Yourself?
Monday 12th February
Hello 👋
Do you forgive yourself? Regularly?
The most common answer would be no.
Think about something you’ve been through...
Something that shifted your life. Not good, nor bad.
How does it make you feel?
The thing is, most of the time, we don’t live now. We live in our heads.
Within perceived good outcomes, or bad ones.
Here’s something for you to think about…
Why do you feel shame, guilt, or regret for something a previous version of yourself did or didn’t do?
You may say “Cause I’m still embarrassed.“
Or that, “I wish I’d done something different.”
The truth is, that isn’t real.
It’s just a belief system you have attached, to that thing you went through.
Why?
Because at one point in time, you felt you needed it.
Your past self made choices, with the best understanding they had at the time.
Forgive them.
And, you believed they were the right decision to make. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have made them.
That version of you doesn’t deserve blame - they deserve empathy.
They were on a learning curve, just as you are now, just as you will be tomorrow.
So will you a decade from now also torture yourself?
Would you really want that?
Cause if you wouldn’t do you really think you from 10 years ago, want that feeling now?
Do you really think they want you, at the age you are now, blaming them for something they did all the way back then?
Do you really think that’s fair?
It doesn’t seem like it. Does it?
Then here’s what you can do. Make small steps this week, to slowly unravel those belief systems, and allow yourself to let them it.
Don’t exile them out of your life.
Every day is a new canvas. Paint something pretty.
Stay curious,
C
