Who Are You Letting Decide, Who You Are?
Monday 30th October

Hello everyone 👋
Here’s a question for you…
Who controls your emotional state? Is it you or the world around you?
There's a thought that's been bouncing around in my mind after a tweet I put out earlier last week.
We are socially trained to view ourselves from the external perspective, rather than the internal, from early on in our lives.
And, since the creation of things like cameras, TV, and social media, everything can be observed and re-observed, over and over again.
Which means your external perception, can basically be rewired.
What’s An Easier Way To See Yourself?
On the flip side, when we seek validation from within, we're the ones in the driver's seat.
Our self-worth isn't tied to the fleeting whims of others. It's anchored in something much more stable: our self-perception, our values, and our beliefs.
The difference between the two is stark. One leaves you vulnerable, constantly swayed by the ever-shifting winds of public opinion.
The other grants you a sturdy foundation, allowing you to navigate the world with confidence and self-assuredness.
So What Do We Do?
Now, I'm not saying we should live in a bubble, completely oblivious to the opinions of others. Feedback can be invaluable, offering fresh perspectives and helping us grow.
However, there's a chasm of difference between considering feedback and being defined by it.
So, next time you catch yourself looking outside for approval, take a pause. Ask yourself: "Am I giving someone else the power to dictate how I feel about myself?"
If the answer is 'yes', maybe it's time to reclaim that remote control.
After all…
…your emotional state is too precious to be left in the hands of anyone but yourself.
Stay self-assured, and remember your worth isn't up for public auction.
What others think of you is none of your business.
Stay curious
C
