Words Don't Teach
Words Don't Teach
Friday 8th December
Hello 👋
I was reminded today by a friend yesterday, when discussing a stress-related issue I’m having with my work, that; words don't teach.
You see I was going round asking for advice, and I couldn’t get anyone to say what I was looking for. Until him…
He said, “Well, words don’t teach. The only way you learn the answer for this, is by experiencing and trying to find the answer, not getting it spelled out to you.”
Words, in all their glory, are vessels for sharing, not teaching.
They're messengers of wisdom, carriers of knowledge, but the real teacher?
Experience.
Think about the countless words you read or hear daily.
Millions and millions in your lifetime.
Did they teach you? Or prep you?
They can inform, inspire, or provoke thought, but the lessons that truly stick are often those learned through living, doing, being.
This is why inaction is so painful.
Not just because we then don’t have anything to say about our lives. But we don’t have any experience to show for it either.
So why do we share words at all?
As a way of telling a story, and our perception of our story.
You see words are there for us, not really for others. We get the joy of sharing our words, with others, and vice versa.
So how do you build your story?
Journal.
Might sound crazy.
But every day write 3-5 sentences, in a book, about what you would want form a day in your life in the future. Write about a specific thing.
The style of the coffee shop you’re sitting in. The shape of the armchair in your living room. Or the breed of dog you want to walk along a beach with.
Anything.
Write it. And create it.
Have a wonderful weekend, and happy creating everybody!
Stay curious,
C
