You Are Every Decision You’ve Ever Made
Monday 22nd January
Hello 👋
Have you ever realised you are the sum of every decision you’ve ever made?
Every action you’ve ever taken.
You are the mass compounding, of thoughts, belief systems, habits and behaviours.
How Your Brain Works.
It’s very simple to understand:
Thoughts → Belief Systems
Habits → Behaviours
Your thoughts are triggered by surrounding environments, other people and various forms of stimulus.
These over time programme themselves, to become belief systems. You start doing habits and taking action on these belief systems, and before you know it you now have fully engrained behaviours.
You Do What You Believe Will Benefit You
You never actively, do anything to harm you. You can only ever make a decision, on what you believe will be good for you.
So…
…when you develop bad habits, it’s only because you built a belief system to fuel it, around thoughts you either had or overheard.
So How Do I Change My Behaviour?
Just work backwards. Reverse engineer the system.
Look at your behaviours. Look at what you do on a daily, weekly and monthly basis, and observe them.
Non emotionally. Don’t hold a grudge against yourself, or feel shame or regret. Remember you only ever did it anyway because you believed it would benefit you.
Then see the habits behind those behaviours. Ask yourself why, you do these habits.
Search deeply as to why you do, what it is that you do. And what are the thoughts driving it.
Then rewrite your thoughts.
A Little Something Like This…
‘I am lazy’ → ‘I am afraid of failure, and so I self-sabotage my talent. I want to succeed, and so I want to find the fun in the challenge...’
‘I don’t like how I look → ‘I feel I have the potential to improve my body. I like the way this person looks and dresses, and I think I can do something just like it, but with my on twist…’
‘I’m not good at making money’ → ‘I currently want more from myself financially. I’d like to be able to do more, perhaps travel, go to restaurants, or visit distant friends.
I am going to learn from others who are in a better financial place than me, and learn directly from them. Then implement their ideas, and see that change I’m looking for.’
Things Take Time
This won’t change overnight. But, just like rolling a snowball down a hill. Give it a little momentum, you’ll see the compounding effect in no time.
Remember, once you’re aware of a bad habit. It’s no longer a habit. It’s a choice. It’s up to you.
Stay curious,
C
